Nanfang Hospital was established in 1941 during World War II as a military hospital. After eight decades of development, Nanfang hospital is now a nation-class academic medical center based in Guangzhou, which is committed to clinical practice, education and research. As the major teaching hospital and the first affiliated medical college of Southern Medical University, Nanfang hospital continues to provide professional whole-person care to domestic and overseas patients, while cultivates clinical and research excellence serving the healthcare career of China. It has been approved as a top Class Grade-A Hospital at the first nationwide review and judgement,and has achieved one of the "A Hundred Best Hospital in China" for decades.

 Nanfang hospital has become one of the "Climbing Peak" hospital in Guangdong Province ,and its raking in Chinese Top Hospital List (by Fudan) come out in front in recent years.

[Introduction]

Nanfang Hospital is the first affiliated hospital and the first clinical medical college of Southern Medical University. It engages in clinical medical treatment, medical education, medical research, and preventive healthcare. It is a large comprehensive tertiary Grade A hospital and a national regional medical center. The hospital was established in 1941 as the rear hospital of the Third Division of the New Fourth Army. In 1975, the hospital was renamed as the First Affiliated Hospital of the First Military Medical University of the People's Liberation Army of China, then approved to be called "Nanfang Hospital" to the public. In 2004, Nanfang hospital was hand over to Guangdong Province from the People's Liberation Army and renamed as Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University.

The hospital currently has two campuses, the main campus in Baiyun District and Zengcheng campus. The hospital also manages the Baiyun and Taihe branches as well as cooperates with the People's Government of Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province. The cooperation with Ganzhou People's Hospital (AKA, Southern Medical University Southern Hospital Ganzhou Hospital) to jointly build a national regional medical center. The hospital is currently an output hospital for the construction of national regional medical centers, the National Regional Trauma Centre jointly built by the National Health Commission and Guangdong Province, the institution of National Intractable Disease (tumors) Diagnosis and Treatment Capacity Enhancement Project, a National Regional Rheumatism Centre of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a hospital of National Emergency Medical Rescue Base, a pilot institution for the Flagship construction project for the collaboration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and the institution of Discipline Innovation Introduction Base (National ��111�� project) . Nanfang hospital is the  first batch of key construction units of the high-level hospitals "Climbing Plan" of Guangdong Province. It has also set up the State Key Laboratory for the Prevention and Treatment of Organ Failure, the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Chronic Nephropathy, the Guangdong Institute of Nephropathy, the Guangdong Institute of Liver Diseases, the Guangdong Institute of  Orthopedics and Trauma, and the Southern China Institute of Digestive Diseases.

The hospital has 5 national key disciplines, 17 national clinical key specialties, and 3 national clinical key specialty construction projects (neurology, anesthesia, and cardiovascular medicine). Clinical medicine and Stomatology have approved to be doctoral degree authorization.

The hospital has 1 academician of the CAS Member, 7 flexible introduced academicians, and more than 60 national level talents, such as Changjiang Scholars, The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholar and Outstanding Young Scholar,  and National Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talents.

The hospital has won 10 second prizes for National Scientific and Technological Progress and 35 first prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels; The number of projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China has ranked as top 10 for three consecutive years. In recent years, in the ranking of authoritative hospitals in China, hospitals have consistently ranked among the top 15-20 comprehensive hospitals, with 10-15 specialties including Nephrology, Lemology, Plastic surgery, Hematology, Pathology, and Gastroenterology entering the top list nationwide or being nominated.

 The hospital has successively won honors such as the exemplary organization for the prevention and control of SARS, the National Hero Group for earthquake relief, the National Advanced Group for combating COVID-19 pandemic, the National Civilized Unit, and the group with outstanding performance in the construction of the national safe hospital.
